What's PSICK Univ? Korean Comedy Trends

Psick University is the name of Korean comedy YouTube channle. Its contents consist of multiple series, including "한사랑산악회(Hansarang Climbing), "05학번이즈백(05Hakbeon is Back)", "비대면데이트(Virtual Date)", and etc. In Korea, 비대면 데이트 was the content that made this channel and characters in it got so popular to the extent of syndrome. 

 

It seems like the beginning of 2020 when 최준(Choi Joon, character acted by comedian "김해준(Kim Haejoon)") character got so popular and loved in Korea. Lots of Korean stars also posted their videos mimicking him, masmerized by his humor derived from his acting, way of talking and style of concept. From there, it expanded more of its own contents series that include the same members. One of the unique traits of this YouTube channel is that each comedian acts multiple characters that are regarded as entirely different person from one another. For example, comedian 이창호(Lee ChangHo) created the character of 이호창(Lee HoChang) who is concepted as a CEO of a corporate group in Virtual Date, and he also plays a old man in his 50s who loves sing and shout in Hansarang Climbing. 

 

Also, lots of fans leave comments on the videos, surprised by the gap between characters played by a person, clapping at comedians' acting skills and skills of creating concept. It is now a huge meme in Korean comedian and entertainment industry. Also one of the responds is about the growth of this channel, because Korean TV comedy shows has been almost vanished from the beginning of 2010s, such as 웃찾사 and 개그콘서트. Then it has been known many comedians lose their job and started to find a different job to make their living. So, PSICK Univ's successful transition of comedy stage from TV to YouTube has been wowed many viewers. 

 

For example, even after Virtual Date was ended, contents of Singing with Choi Joon has been continued, where Korean singers and rappers sing their songs together with Choi Joon. Because of the iconic voice and style of Choi Joon, singing contents has been liked by huge number of viewers, so one of the hot promotion/collaboration between Korean stars.
